Nibbling at the edges of discipline

Discipline. The easiest thing about it is talking abut it. You read these mountains of tracts on how you need to be disciplined and consistent to reach your goals. You nod vigorously, like a jackass in retrospect, agree heartily with the advice, smile cheerily from within your v-neck sweater snugged under a comfortable shirt collar, an envelope label with your name written on it and pasted on your chest, looking serious and studious and filled with the positive energy of the entire universe, bouncing out singing – I believe I can fly…and wham, bam, crash.

So, this blog entered a Big Freeze Out again. The black hole tug to blog death oblivion. An updated chart shows:

thebigfreezeout2

As numbers go, not too bad eh? Not nearly so big the freeze out this time around. Managed to arrest the dry spell to a 26-day hiatus.

Two pernickety questions keep cropping up: As Xunis asked here: What is the point of this blog? And which niche market does it serve (from a pro-blogging, strategizing perspective)?

The second question is easier to answer. The primary audience for this blog is an audience of one. Me. The rest is all gravy. Accepted with gratitude. The first question connects to the second and is answered here. I hope by the overflow of words a structure will emerge. Something more than just quaintly arranged word radish.

Obviously, given the obvious non-commercial direction of this blog, there is really no need for such a question to rise except maybe that sense of discontent at not getting somewhere faaaast. I need to beat in the lesson – it’s not the destination, it’s the journey. Both are equally important but when on the journey it’s just as important to balance the impatience with respect and love for the journey itself.

Then there is the matter of quality vs. quantity. Should I go for well articulated longly slaved over passages that take more than a week to produce? Or Should I just fire from the hip? Rapid staccato bursts of emotion without care or concern and then trip over and fall flat on the face and pick myself up with a shrug and keep on running.

Again, this is a case of the middle wayed way. Rather than trying to layer a method on the content why don’t you let the content decide how long or short it wants to be? Your only responsibility is to turn up here: regularly, consistently. The frequency is up to you: daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, bi-yearly, decadely, centuryly, milleniumly, you decide.

Hmmm.

But you do want the gravy train dontcha you lil shyster. Ok then you need to post regularly you know. Many times a week. But don’t forget, the method is subservient to the content. Always.
